A halfway house or a transition house is a facility for individuals transitioning from incarceration to the community. Typically, incarcerated people transfer here closer to the date of their (conditional release). Sometimes, the term halfway house is also used for people who transfer to this type of facility post-release. It provides a structured environment with supervision and support services to help residents gradually reintegrate into society. Residents may participate in counselling, vocational training, and other activities outside the facility, so within the community. However, concrete arrangements depend on the facility, the target group and national rules of the respective country.
