Transition House Hamme

Transition House Hamme is managed by a recently established NGO called “De Kansenfabriek.” Transition House Hamme will be the second managed by De Kansenfabriek and the fourth transition house in Belgium. The opening is scheduled for late 2024, early 2025, so the organization is still planning the opening of this facility. Residents of the transition house are called participants to emphasize the active position a person will take to make their reintegration process positive.

The transition house is based on four different kinds of aspects that are important to guarantee a successful re-integration. These aspects are self-determination, connection, recovery and identity and each have their own roll to fulfill. The role of self-determination is to stimulate leadership in someone to promote positive behavioral changes and connection is about how the participants in the transition house will live as a small-scaled community and how the personal network of a participant is involved. The recovery vision is about the relationship between the offender and its victim, social network and society that has to be mended and the aspect of identity is about developing a ‘new’ positive identity after the crime. Hamme also has a lot of opportunities in the city itself for a positive return.
