Transition House Leuven

Transition House Leuven is managed by a recently established Belgian NGO called “De Kansenfabriek.” The Leuven transition house will be the first managed by the Kansenfabriek and the third transition house in Belgium. It is scheduled to open in the spring of 2024. The opening of the house will establish an intensive collaboration with the city of Leuven and local partners. Residents of the transition house will be called participants to emphasize the active position someone will take to make their reintegration process positive.

The transition house is based on four different kinds of aspects that are important to guarantee a successful re-integration. These aspects are self-determination, connection, recovery and identity and each have their own roll to fulfill. The role of self-determination is to stimulate leadership in someone to promote positive behavioral changes and connection is about how the participants in the transition house will live as a small-scaled community and how the personal network of a participant is involved. The recovery vision is about the relationship between the offender and its victim, social network and society that has to be mended and the aspect of identity is about developing a ‘new’ positive identity after the crime.
