Lyderhorn Halfway House Bergen

Founded in 2006, Lyderhorn halfway house is a halfway house in the outskirts of Bergen, Norway. As part of a network of eight halfway houses across the country, this facility operates under the ownership of Kriminalomsorgen Norway, the Norwegian Correctional Services. Its mission is to help people in detention transition from a prison to free society by spending the last part of their sentence in a house with low security. The promotion of positive development and crime deterrence are a main focus in the house.

DIFFERENTIATION

The target group of Lyderhorn halfway house is mixed-gender adults who are nearing the end of their sentences and require assistance in transitioning back to life outside of a detention facility.

The Lyderhorn halfway house operates on the principle of normality. Central to this concept is the belief that residents’ daily routines should closely mirror those of individuals living beyond detention walls. Programs are tailored to each individual and can be executed in both collective and individual settings. Residents are in control of their own schedule and they have the freedom to leave the premises for work, studies, or regular daily tasks, facilitating an environment where most activities take place outside the house whenever possible.

Because of the principle of normality at the heart of Lyderhorn halfway house, interaction between residents and the community is important. During the day, residents can participate in regular daily life in the community. They can move freely in the community and make use of many services in the community, such as education, work, health services, psychologists, grocery shopping… Now and then, pre-organized meetings or dialogues take place between the residents and the facility.
