RISe Foundation’s Residential Home

RISe Foundation’s Residential Home

RISe Foundation’s Residential Home (from now on “RISe Foundation’s home”) is managed by RISe Foundation and plays a vital role in fulfilling the foundation’s mission and vision by offering a community-based rehabilitation and reintegration program with aftercare service. The facility is located in Valletta, Malta’s capital city, and is an integral part of the neighbourhood. RISe Foundation’s home was established in 2016 and operates under a formal agreement between the Ministry of Family, Children’s Rights and Social Solidarity and RISe Foundation, allowing the foundation to manage it. Apart from the program provided, the Foundation also contributes towards research, advocacy and innovation in policy implications through talks, conferences and educating the general public.

about

The facility prioritizes autonomy and control over the schedules, allowing residents to make their own choices, as long as they fulfill their work and house-related tasks. Beyond the daily activities, residents have the freedom to engage in a range of outside activities, such as meeting their families, attending appointments, or participating in reintegration-related programs. Residents are encouraged to maintain connections with their social network, visiting their families every week. These visits take place outside the facility, either in public spaces or in family homes. This approach ensures a holistic and community-based approach to reintegration.

Mapped by the RESCALED-movement

Small-scale, differentiated and community-integrated facilities can be found in many European countries. There is not one, but a thousand detention houses. As part of the two-year WISH-EU Project, Prison Insider developed an interactive map that visualizes a database of detention facilities from various European regions. Throughout this European-funded project, we identified and visited over 40 good practices that apply one or more of the following principles: small-scale, differentiation and community-integration. Since then, RESCALED has continued to identify and visit practices whose stories can inspire us to drive systemic change. We have further developed the map to include various filters and detailed reports so you can get to know these inspirational practices!
